June 2

Today we moved anchorages in Makemo. We went 8 miles across the inside of the atoll and achored in front of two small motus (little islands). All coral atolls have a ring of motus around the outer edge and water in the middle. Makemo is around 40 miles long and around 8 miles wide. We were anchored near the pass and the village. But the fetch (the distance wind waves build up) made the anhorage a bit rough sometimes. By moving across and being on the southern edge we now have a very calm spot!
