A Bit About Jordan

October, 2004

Hi, thanks for dropping in. I am writing this from the desk aboard our home the "Queen Jane" currently located in Majuro, Republic of the Marshall Islands. How I came to be here is documented in the pages of this web site. Why am I here? Lets just say that I wanted to do something different in my life for a while and wanted to explore some of the world. I always dreamed of sailing around the world and we just might do it.

We are lucky enough to own a 50ft sailing yacht, how we came across this yacht is a long and involved story, but the truth is we got lucky. Some people think we just laze around all day but the truth is we work hard to keep our home in good shape (bristol fashion) and I don't mean we spend a few hours a month painting. It's a full time job and we both spend at least 20 hours a week either fixing, cleaning, removing broken parts, reinstalling fixed parts, maintaining something or changing oil in something or painting/varnishing/oiling something. Some months we spend more like 40hrs a week. Last year was especially tough on us mechanically but things are going well now and our luck has been very good in the last year.

On the other hand, we are doing what we want and answer to no one. We have been doing this since August, 2000 when we left Seattle on an open ended tour of the world. We had very little real experience when we started and spent many days worrying about what we didn't know that we did not know but that we knew we should know. We are a bit wiser now, though hardly experts. We frequently meet people with 8 or 10 or even 20 years experience cruising the world's oceans. But we are on the right track. We don't know what we are going to do "after" but whatever it is I am sure we will be richer for our experiences.

I hope those of you reading this will find these pages interesting. Please feel free to let us know what you think.
